U Tří růží is a real gem... they make their own beer and have excellent food. Located in the very heart of central Prague, just a short walk from the astronomical clock and a childs' stone-throw from Cafe Montmartre
The first time I visited this great brewery-bar was for my Christmas dinner in 2012. I ate Pike Perch with one (or was it TWO?) of their festive brews. I was impressed then and this restaurant remains one of my favourite in Prague. I am usually sceptical of restaurants in tourist-trap areas, but U Tri Ruzi (Three Roses) is first class.
I find the prices are cheap - Their beer is between 20 and 100% more expensive than your standard beers, but the taste and heritage is worth it... and besides, unless you are born in Czech Republic, to pay less than 2 euros for a pint is still incredible. Also, the food is high quality and reasonably priced. The homemade sausages and bread for example (the perfect meal for the beer) was just 8 euros and ample size to share.
the interior is very czech;- huge brass-brewery things I do not understand, and slapstick cartoons painted onto the walls. Love it. Alas, they have a large screen downstairs, but I usually eat upstairs, where it is much quieter, and if you're lucky, you will find a seat overlooking the street.
The last time I visited, I shared their homemade sausages with a friend. I look forward to steadily working my way through the whole menu - food and beer.
